Veysonnaz is a largely unspoilt village in the huge 4 Valleys ski area of the Swiss Valais. Located in a commanding position at the crossroads of several valleys, the resort enjoys exceptional panoramic views and a pleasant climate, as well as receiving more than six metres (20 feet) of snow, on average, each winter.

The village is located at one extreme of the 400km (250 mile) plus 4 Valleys, and its distance from the main hub at Verbier has left it largely untouched by mass-market tourism, to its great benefit. New building has not been allowed to spoil the traditional French-speaking Valasian mountain village's character.

The skiing here is some of the best in the world with almost 2000 vertical metres to enjoy between the village and the peak of Mont Fort at 3,300m with its snow-sure glacier skiing. In between there are superb long cruisers for intermediates, many challenges on and off piste for experts and even good beginner slopes. Around three quarters of the local slopes have snowmaking cover too.

• Skiing for Beginners+

  Veysonnaz has a laid back atmosphere with the local ski slopes best suited to beginners and intermediates, so it is quite a pleasant place to learn.
  
  The local ski school offers group or private lessons and there are three nursery slopes and blue runs on which to master the basics before striking out in to the wider area. A gondola lift takes you up to the easy slopes at the sunny summit of the local ski area, and back down at the end of the day.

• Intermediate Skiing+

  The huge choice of terrain in the 4 Valleys means Veysonnaz is a great base for a week long, or season long holiday for recreational skiers.
  
  Nearly half of the available terrain is graded red with more than 100 miles of intermediate standard terrain divided into more than 50 individual runs.
  
  Popular areas include the Lac des Vaux bowl with lifts rising in all directions. Runs locally are up to five kilometres (three miles) long, with 15km (9 mile) descents possible in the wider 4
  Valleys when snow conditions are optimum from top to bottom.

• Advanced+

  A paradise for experienced snow sports addicts, good skiers will want to make the most of the 4 Valley's myriad attractions.
  
  These include the famous local ski slope "de l'Ours" – one of the most important World Cup Ski runs - as well as the other attractions of the 4 Valleys such as the massive mogul-strewn Tortin snow bowl, the exceptionally steep Attelas couloirs and the very black runs of Mont Gele, as well as the infamous Gentianes run below the cable car.
  
  Ski safaris are organised by the ski schools and heli-skiing is another popular option. Ski mountaineering is a further major attraction with the 4 Valleys located on the famous 'Haute Route' between Chamonix and Zermatt (a six day expedition).

• Snowboarding at Veysonnaz+

  Veysonnaz does not push itself as a major snowboarding centre, but the 4 Valleys as a whole are of course a world famous snowboarding destination and venue for extreme competitions each winter.
  
  There are terrain parks above neighbouring Nendaz as well as in more distant Verbier. The favourite slope for boarders in the whole region is generally regarded as La Chaux.
  
  The Xtreme Freeride contest on the north face of the Bec de Rosses, with its gradients of up to 54 degrees attracts the world's best riders, by invitation only, each winter.

• Other Activities And Facilities at Veysonnaz+

  Veysonnaz has a moderate selection of things to do besides ski and board. Outdoor options include paragliding, 20 kilometres of cross country skiing, a natural ice rink and a kilometre long toboggan run.
  
  Indoors there's a sports centre with sauna and large indoor swimming pool with other facilities including a post office, bank, cash machine and limited shopping.

• Apres Ski And Dining Out+

  Apres ski options are limited with just half a dozen restaurants and bars, one with late night dancing, to choose from.
  
  Most of the dining options are, as you would expect, traditional, hearty Alpine mountain cuisine, although you can also find Italian options like pizza. Some of the best dining is to be found in one of the resort's better hotels, the Hotel Chalet Royal.

• Ski Holidays in Veysonnaz suitable for Families+

  Although there's no non-ski nursery provision for the youngest children, Veysonnaz does provide a beautiful location for a relaxed family holiday in which to enjoy quality time together. Family ticket
  pricing is available on lift passes.
  
  The local Swiss Ski School runs a ski kindergarten with specially trained staff and dedicated learning area for children aged three-and-a-half and older wanting to learn to ski. Baby sitting services are also available via the tourist office.
