Nendaz Transfer Times+
| Geneva: | 0 minutes |
| Zürich: | 0 minutes |
Nendaz is a medium sized village on the 4-Valleys circuit, one of the world's largest with more than 410km (257 miles) of lift-linked piste above the Rhone Valley. The resort is lift linked to several others on the pass including world famous Verbier, and lifts ascend for almost 2000 vertical metres to the 3,300m high Mont-Fort where the snow fields on the glacier there continue year round, and previously offered summer-skiing. It is usually quicker and easier reaching Mont Fort's skiing from Nendaz than the crowded routes up from Verbier.
The village is a traditional centre, famous for its association with the giant Alphorn musical instrument, but has expanded a great deal during the ski era from its humble original, and now has an extensive bed-base for guests, a lot of them in pleasant apartments, following the French post-war ski resort model.
Nendaz is in the French-speaking part of Switzerland. There are spectacular views from the village and the ski slopes above. There is also the option of staying in Nendaz's high altitude off-shoot above, Siviez, linked by ski lift or a free shuttle bus.
Direct to lift access is possible by buying your lift ticket in advance. You then simply walk on to the lifts on arrival in Nendaz with the electronic ticket opening the gates for you. The pass can cover the local slopes or all the lifts of the full 4 Valleys region.
-
Beginners+
There are beginner slopes by the village but the preferred area for lessons is the frozen lake, Tracouet which has been especially developed as a beginners area with excellent nursery slopes. The area is easy to reach by gondola and offers wonderful views. We can offer learn-to-ski packages incorporating tuition, rentals and lift tickets.
-
Intermediates+
With the vast 4 Valleys to explore, Nendaz is a great location to make the best of the region, located as it is in the heart of the area, with the busy slopes of Verbier and la Tzoumas on one side and of Veysonnaz to the other.
Indeed the local Printz region forms more than half of the 4 Valleys and there's so much here, with 220km (138 miles) of piste you need never venture over to the Verbier side if you don't want to.
-
Advanced+
The 4-Valleys contain some of the world's most exciting skiing for experienced skiers and stage a number of challenging world class events for advanced and extreme skiers each winter. The area's pistes include some of the most exciting in the world including the Mont-Fort - Gentianes -Tortin ski run, famous for the steepness of its descent and the altitude of its summit (3330m).
Unlike most ski runs, the Mont-Fort one is not prepared mechanically as the slope is too steep to allow this. The preparation is limited to securing the area around the slope after each snowfall.
Mont-Fort is also a major freeriding centre for those in search of freedom, untouched nature and powder snow. In Nendaz, freeriding has formed part of the local culture for many years.
-
Snowboarding+
The Burton Progression Park is a European exclusivity for Nendaz. The innovative concept contains modules which are easier to access than in most traditional snow-parks, making freestyle skiing or snowboarding is at last open to all.
The goal of the park is to improve one's skills, stage by stage, to reach a more advanced level. This park is part of the "Learn to ride" system developed by the famous snowboard manufacturer Burton. There is also a terrain park for experienced riders and the freeriding terrain is world class.

Other Activities And Facilities+
Winter hiking is popular in the area with 100km (63 miles) of clearly marked paths for hours of walks in the snow and calm surroundings. For those wishing to trek out over the snow there are 35km (22 miles) of snowshoe routes.
Other outdoor activities include ice climbing and winter climbing offered by the mountain guides office, and tandem paragliding. The new sledging run at Tortin is three kilometres (nearly two miles) long or there is a shorter 200m descent at Plaine des Ecluses. Snow tubing is also available at Tracouet.
The resort's sport centre has ice skating, curling rink and squash courts. Fitness facilities include cardio-vascular equipment, hammam and sauna. Other indoor options include pool at the Canadian Pub, Le Mazot or Toko Lounge.

Apres Ski And Dining Out+
Nandaz has good nightlife with more than a dozen lively bars, 30 or so restaurants and other activities laid on. There's even an ice-disco regularly organised in the evenings at the ice rink.
Amongst the wide ranging choice of watering holes, Man Down is good for French music, ragga, rock and electronic music. Its happy hours are from 5 to 7pm. Le Forum is good for cocktails and every Wednesday at the Cactus Saloon there's the famous "the bar tender never gets killed" contest. The Saloon also has an outdoor après ski bar and late night disco.
The wide choice of restaurants includes French, Italian and Mexican amongst the many traditional Swiss establishments for fondue and raclette.
-
Families+
Nendaz has the "Families Welcome" accreditation awarded by the Swiss Government to resorts which perform especially well in this area. The P'tit Becnursery in the resort centre welcomes children from 18 months upwards.
The resort goes as far as to provide details of winter walks which are pushchair friendly and there is a toy and games library. If you have forgotten any item the "Boutique l'enfant" shop offers a wide range of baby and child essential products.
Older children aged five and over can join the ski school's ski kindergarten in the resort's snow garden up on frozen lake Tracouet, where specially adapted lifts allow children to discover the joys of skiing in a fun way. Special lower ski pass rates, compared to buying tickets individually, are available for families.
