Resort Height: 710m

the small, friendly resort of Vemdalen is probably one of the best family and beginner-suited resorts around. Its suitability is thanks to a network of gentle, uncrowded slopes that all lead back to the ski base, a superb English-speaking ski school and a dedicated ski and play area for children.

The accommodation, at the base of the ski area, is located within metres of the slopes so no need for a ski bus in this resort! Resort facilities, also situated around the ski base, include three restaurants, a piano bar, ski hire shop, ski school, coffee shop and a good-sized supermarket.

The resort has ploughed much investment into the ski area recently. Winter 2005/6 saw the opening of a new ski area, ‘Skalsfjallet’, serviced by a new 6 seater chairlift. This new area means four more pistes varying in difficulty and a new terrain park for those who like jumps and rails.As well as Vemdalen, the lift pass covers the areas of Bjornrike and Klovsjo/Storhogna.

For non-skiers and après-ski, there’s a great choice of things to do including husky dog sledding, snowmobiling, Icelandic pony trekking and ice climbing.

For a family ski holiday or confidence building first trip to the slopes, Vemdalen is the perfect destination. It’s the well-planned resort, services, activities and welcoming ‘can-do’ attitude that makes the holiday experience effortless, safe and good fun.

Please note, there is an ATM cash machine in resort but no bank therefore it is not possible to change travellers cheques. Credit cards are widely accepted.

Beginners
Vemdalen is the ideal resort for complete beginners of all ages. The long, wide slopes are well planned and designed to lead back to one central meeting point at the base of the slopes. Vemdalen’s ski school has a fantastic reputation and is one of our award winning ski schools. Its English speaking instructors provide excellent tuition, helping to instill confidence in even the most cautious beginner.

Intermediate
The ski school’s motto is “It’s Never Too Late To Learn”, highlighting their dedication to ensure that all skiers get something out of their skiing experience. The ski terrain offers great intermediate skiing, with 10 lifts and 13 pistes in Vemdalen & 8 lifts and 15 pistes in Bjornrike, more suited to improvers and intermediate skiers. Vemdalen also offers floodlit skiing two evenings per week until the end of March.

Advanced
The combined resorts of Vemdalen, Bjornrike and Klovsjo/ Storhogna offer some variety for more competent skiers. A ski bus provides access to these areas (the service runs at least four days a week, more during high season and is payable locally). You can also take advantage of the specialist ski school courses which include off-piste, carving, moguls or telemark skiing.

Snowboarding
With two dedicated fun parks (including the new park at Skalsfjallet) and varied terrain, snowboarders are well catered for here. However, boarders should be aware of the many draglifts and T–bars!

Children
Vemdalen prides itself on its focus on children. As well as its own dedicated ski area, children from 3yrs benefit from an excellent ski school (1hr lessons available in resort for 3-4yr olds and 2hr group lessons available to pre-book) and evening activities several times a week, including children’s discos, outdoor activities, films and games. Our family-focused Neilson rep will also organise a programme of après-ski activities suited to all ages.
