On Saturday December 8th, portions of Colorado ski resort Vail were opened for the 2007-08 ski season.
Blue Sky Basin and parts of the China, Sun Up and Sun Down Bowls opened on the weekend along with over 3,500 acres of skiable terrain accessible to those on pre-Christmas ski breaks.
In total, early season skiers can now choose from 145 pistes after 23 lifts, including High Noon, Riva Bahn, New Highline, New Sourdough, Cascade, Orient, Teacup, Skyline and Pete’s Express Lift opened.
"The new Highline Express Lift will still deliver skiers and riders to the top of signature bump run Highline and adjacent expert trails [and] the new Sourdough Express Lift will provide enhanced access to one of the resort’s popular beginner areas," according to Vail ski resort.
On Saturday morning, the Highline was opened in a special ribbon cutting ceremony to commemorate the lift’s debut.
In other ski news, Whistler was recently named number one North American ski resort by readers of Conde Nast Traveler magazine.
