Three New Trails For Heavenly
Wednesday, October 15th, 2008
Heavenly Mountain ski area has announced that it will open three new ski runs this winter and ‘re-grade’ a fourth. The new runs are part of a recently agreed 10 year “master plan” to enhance the resort, owned by Vail in Colorado, both on and off the mountain.
“The debut of Olympic Express and the Heavenly Flyer ZipRider last season set Heavenly apart as the next great destination resort,” said Blaise Carrig, Heavenly’s chief operating officer. “This winter guests will expect more improvements including new gladed trails in Ski Ways and the re-grading of Skyline Trail, which is the biggest little project at Heavenly in terms of its positive impact on the guest experience.”
The three new pistes on the California side of the giant ski area, which stretches over the state-line in to Nevada, will include two in the Ski Ways glades (areas of thinned woodland slopes) and the third in Powderbowl Woods.
The runs continue the trend Heavenly began in the area served by the Olympic Express lift last season. The resort creates ‘tree islands’ in these intermediate to advanced level pistes, that are located far enough apart to groom the run with a snow cat.
The two trails in Ski Ways Glades will be designated as black diamonds (rated most difficult in the US), and the trail in Powderbowl Woods will be designated as a blue square (intermediate/more difficult).Heavenly has continued its commitment to offer what it believes are Lake Tahoe’s best groomed slopes by adding five new low-emission Prinoth Bison groomers and one new low-emission Prinoth Bison winch cat. With these additions to the fleet, Heavenly maintains its claim to the largest fleet of Prinoth groomers in North America.
