Green Ski Resort Proposed For Vail
Wednesday, March 7th, 2007
Ski deals to Colorado could be getting greener, if a proposed green ski resort in the Rocky Mountain state gets the go ahead.
A proposed $1 billion green project, "Ever Vail", would transform the 9.5-acre site, currently known as West LionsHead, into the largest green ski resort in North America.
The environmentally-friendly ski holiday destination would include a hotel, shops, restaurants, mountain operations facilities, a new cable car and a public park.
The name Ever-Vale refers to the principle of sustainability which drives the project.
Rob Katz, chief executive officer of Vail Resorts said: "At Vail Resorts, our core mission is providing guests an exceptional experience at our five extraordinary mountain resorts."
He added: "When the opportunity presented itself to create a new neighbourhood at the base of Vail Mountain that would be truly sustainable, we knew that this was the right thing to do for the environment, our guests, our company and the community."
Vail Mountain, at 5289 acres, is the largest single mountain ski resort in the US. It first opened to skiing in 1962.
