Verbier Makes Eco-friendly Efforts

The Swiss ski holiday resort of Verbier is looking to enhance its environmentally friendly efforts with the introduction of new technology.
A report from Snow24 revealed that the popular ski holiday resort’s grooming machines have been fitted with sonar technology to help detect snow depths, according to the Ski Club of Great Britain.
Such technology is green in the sense that it provides lift companies with details about snow depths across pistes and therefore when to and when not to make artificial snow. This in turn will save water and energy.
Grooming will also not take place when snow cover is too thin or does not require maintenance which will limit damage to underlying vegetation and the mountainside.
Other green initiatives taking place at Verbier reportedly include plans to introduce reduced traffic and pedestrianised areas between 2010 and 2015.
The Ski Club of Great Britain offers Seven Steps to those wishing to be more respectful to the environment on a ski holiday. These include not littering the slopes and respecting the natural habitat of mountain animals and plants.
