Verbier’s April Events Includes Big Races

Verbier has a full March and April calendar of international races each sp[ring, and 2010 is no exception with major freeride and other competitions already staged, and several more big events coming up in the next few weeks.
This means you can still enjoy April skiing and boarding on Verbier’s high altitude slopes, formerly opened for summer skiing, and catch some major international events.
At the end of the month the Patrouille des Glaciers (www.pdg.ch) race takes place 21st to 25th April. XCompetoitors can do the full route from Zermatt to Verbier in a single stage, or go from Arolla to Verbier for the shorter version. This skiing challenge is distinguished by its length, its very high altitude and the route profi le.
The Mont-Fort ski run is the venue for the final of the speed skiing World Cup. The XSpeedSki contest (www.xspeedski.net) to be staged between 17th and 25th April should see competitors hitting top speeds once again. This steep slope was where the speed of 200 km/hr was achieved for the first time in Switzerland.
