New Chairlifts In The Jungfrau
Thursday, December 24th, 2009
Switzerland’s Jungfrau ski area, one of the world’s most beautiful, has opened three new chairlifts this month.
The region takes in the historic resorts of Grindelwald, Wengen and Murren; as well as the valley resorts of Interlaken and Lauterbrunnen, each of which has been welcoming British skiers since the earliest days of the sport more than a century ago.
The three new lifts include the six-seat high-speed chair from Arvengarten to Eigergletscher, the new Winteregg quad chair and a rare new two-seater chairlift at Almiboden.
The Eigernordwand six-seat chairlift beneath the Eiger’s North Wall is 1740 metres long and covers a height difference of 495 metres. The ride takes passengers immediately under the Eiger North Wall in just under seven minutes and is the first chairlift in Switzerland to be equipped with orange bubble protective pull down hoods.
