Historic Ski Race Returns To Saas Fee
Wednesday, January 28th, 2009
Saas Fee will resurrect its Mattmark Downhill run this Sunday 1st February and everyone is welcome to take part.
This year the Ski-club of Saas-Almagell, part of Saas Fee’s ski pass area, celebrates its 75th anniversary. That’s the reason why the legendary, seven kilometre (four and a half mile) long Mattmark Downhill Race is set to be re-born at the weekend.
The race course start is located below the Mattmark reservoir and the finishing line is in Saas-Almagell. All participants will be transported by snow-cats up to the starting zone which isn’t served by a ski lift.
Participants should sign up for the event before noon on Saturday 31st January at the Tourist office Saas-Alamgell. Lifts to the start of the race course depart from the Chapell Zermeiggern to the start from 8.30am, with the race itself at 12.30 on the Sunday.
Saas Fee currently has superb snow conditions with 330cm (11 feet) of snow lying on upper slopes.
