High Alpine Tours In Adelboden
Friday, March 6th, 2009
The Alpine touring season is upon us once again, when the snowpack stabilises ahead of the spring melt and skiers can venture off piste in greater safety, assuming they are with a guide and the avalanche risk is low.
At Adelboden in Switzerland a number of ski and snowboard tours around the Engstligenalp mountain are available this month. The Alpine School Adelboden is running special tour weeks from 9-13 and 23-27 March.
Thanks to its unique topography and high elevation, Engstligenalp enjoys snow from December to mid-May, giving pleasure to countless skiers and snowboarders.
Engstligenalp is the largest high plateau in the western Swiss Alps. To the North is the Fitzer mountain, to the West the Ammerten peak, to the South West the Wildstrubel dominates and in the North East lies the Aetelen Ridge.
A fully-qualified mountain guide will explain how to read a map, how to assess the avalanche situation, operate the avalanche rescue device, improve ski technique and how to measure the mountain gradient. All these skills will be practised on simple tours around Engstligenalp.
The second tour week will take place from 23-27 March with basic to moderately difficult tours around the Wildstrubel area.
