Engelberg Further Improves Its Ski Slopes
Wednesday, January 27th, 2010
Switzerland’s Engelberg has expanded the capacity on the Trübsee-Hopper quad chairlift by 30% to 1,500 people per hour. The lift brings skiers and boarders up to the Jochpass area and the slopes that will lead you from the top directly down to Engelberg.
Engelberg offers one of the longest downhill runs in the Alps from the top of Mount Titlis down to the town of Engelberg. The 12km stretch covers a 2000 meter difference in altitude and has a guaranteed snow base. In recent years, Titlis-Rotair Cableway has invested 8.5 million SFr (5.3 million Euro) in snow-making machines, so that 41 km of slopes are guaranteed to be snow covered (33km with artificial snow, 8km on glacial snow).
The long run will host the world’s longest downhill run by torchlight on the 27th of March 2010.
Before the participants buckle their boots and snap on their skis and boards, they will enjoy an evening meal at the Panorama Restaurant on Titlis and after their mystical torch lit descent they will meet at the Chalet next to the Titlis base station for hot punch and coffee schnapps to brag about their impressive downhill feat.
