World’s Longest Slalom Race In Val Gardena
Friday, January 23rd, 2009
Val Gardena’s Seceda/Col Raiser slopes will stage it’s annual Gardenissima race, the world’s longest giant slalom, on April 5th.
The race takes in 88 gates on a 6km course of more than 1000 vertical metres and invites all skiers to pitch themselves against internationally famous skiers who are regular World Cup ski competitors.
More then 500 skiers (amateurs as well as professionals) take part each year and there’s a festival atmosphere with special social events associated with the race.
Staging the race takes all day and by the early afternoon you can read through the ranking list displayed at the Centre Iman in S. Cristina, which is where the awards ceremony is staged in the evening.
If the four mile long slalom is not exhausting enough for you, an option is available that combines the race on snow with a cycling race on the road.
The option combines the Gardenissima with the Val Gardena Star Bike, a marathon with start and arrival in S. Cristina and covering a distance of 42km and an altitude difference of 1,150 m. The route takes you to Monte Pana and Alpe di Siusi and right across the Saslong World Cup Run.
