Learn To Fly In The Dolomites

The huge Dolomiti Superski region has a new initiative for winter 2009-10, encouraging newcomers in to their numerous terrain parks with a special weekly, ‘Freestyle Day.’
“If you are young, courageous and want to learn to fly, what are you waiting for?†said a spokesman for the giant Italian ski region which links about 50 villages in a dozen valleys, together providing, 1,200km of slopes served by nearly 500 lifts. “Come and live the crazy experience with our Freestyle Pros at the Drop in Freestyle Day!†he enthused.
The are reports that freestyle is growing in popularity each year, with ever more young skiers and boarders mastering jumping, grabbing and other aerial tricks.
In freestyler-speak, “drop in†means the first approach to the snowpark. The special fun days, which are aimed at 12-18 year olds, teaches freestyle techniques as well as the all important safety rules and respect for nature.
The ‘Drop In Days’ are being organised in co-operation with 22 ski and snowboard schools in the Dolomiti Superski region and will from mid-January 2010. The days will be staged twice a week in the 20 Dolomiti Superski snow parks. The days will be scheduled for every Wednesday for those on a week’s holiday and every Saturday for those just visiting for the weekender.
Specialist Freestyle instructors will reveal the tricks of the halfpipe, stairs, walls or rails, whether on twin tip skis or snowboard togroups of up to 10 kids per instructor, to guarantee the best learning methods.
The days will last from 10am to 4pm, the day and costs 45 Euros per person without equipment or 69 Euros with freestyle equipment hire, twin tip skis or snowboard, from event partner Salomon Sports.
