Huge Snowfall In Italy
Thursday, December 4th, 2008
Italy’s Dolomite mountains have seen their biggest single snowfall for 20 years with perfect timing just as the ski season starts.
The Dolomiti Superski area has received between 50cm (20 inches) and 170 cm (Nearly six feet) over a three day period at the start of the week.
The huge snowfalls initially caused problems in the region with roads blocked and power lines brought down.
However they also led to a surge in booking and lift ticket sales.
This weekend (December 6-7) most of the lifts and ski-connections between the ski areas will be open.
The famous 23km (14 mile) Sella Ronda lift and piste circuit will also be open in both directions.
