Scotland’s Ski Season Begins
Sunday, November 29th, 2009
Recent heavy rain in the Highlands has fallen as snow on high ground meaning Scotland’s most popular ski area – CairnGorm Mountain – has opened for limited skiing and boarding this weekend.
So far Cairngorm is the only one of the country’s five ski centres to open for the 2009-10 season but it’s still a promisingly early start. Last winter The Lecht opened for Halloween and intermittently through November.
“Skiing before Christmas is a great confidence booster for all businesses in the area and creates a lot of excitement and interest for skiers and snowboarders who wait patiently for the first snows.†Said Cairrngorm’s Chief Executive Ian .Whitaker
“Snow cover is sufficient at the moment to open our two top lifts, the Ciste and the Ptarmigan on our upper slopes with access provided by the Funicular Railway. We are hopeful that colder temperatures will prevail and we can look forward to more snow and more skiing as we move through December.â€
For opening weekend a special promotion price for a ski day ticket is £15 for an Adult and £10 for a Child.
