New Super Safe Kids Lift At Serfaus
Sunday, December 21st, 2008
The Serfaus ski area, linked to neighbouring Fiss and Ladis, has a number of new lifts this winter.
The main cable lift that accesses the ski area from the north end of Fiss has been replaced by a swish new eight-passenger gondola providing quick and comfortable transport to almost 2,400m.
However one of the most interesting lifts is the new ‘Familienbahn Gampen’ which makes getting on the lift easy for even the smallest skiers.
This is made possible by a mechanism developed especially for children. As they wait to get on, the cable car slows down to a third of its normal speed and a conveyor lift cleverly adjusts to the height of the children and thus minimizes the distance from the ground to the chair, enabling the children to get on and sit with ease.
Once boarded the safety bar locks automatically and cannot be opened unintentionally during the journey. For additional safety a leg bar has been fitted to prevent kids from any danger of sliding off the chair.
Protective covering and seat heating also promise a cosy ride up to the next run even in bad weather.
