Skiers To Benefit From Computer Aided Surgery
Monday, January 15th, 2007
UK skiers could benefit from computer aided surgery to fix ailments such as anterior cruciate ligament injury, it has been revealed.
Lancashire-based surgeon Mr Shameem Sampath is the only surgeon in England and Wales to be named as a reference centre for computer aided knee surgery.
His treatment, which takes place at Bluespot Knee Clinic, works by allowing the surgeon to take exact measurements of the patient’s knee and make precise incisions through the use of computer imaging.
"Many of my patients are now travelling from far afield to access our accurate surgery which costs no more than other private knee operations despite the use of this wonderfully accurate technique," commented Mr Sampath.
He added that anybody considering "right first time" knee surgery should look into this option.
Bluespot Knee Surgery notes that the keyhole accuracy means that the ligament has less chance of rejection, leaving many skiers fit for the following season.
Following a skiing accident over Christmas, celebrity-turned-politician Arnold Schwarzenegger revealed that he was in continuing pain after leg surgery.
