Skiers Should Take Out Travel Insurance

Holidaymakers who are planning to go skiing over the winter months have been advised to check whether they are fully insured.
According to Halifax Travel Insurance, most insurance providers do not offer additional cover for winter sports as standard, which has prompted the firm to urge skiers to check the details of their policy.
In addition, some insurance policies do not include cover for activities such as off-piste skiing, snowboarding or skidooing, Halifax stated.
Paul Birkhead, underwriting manager for Halifax Travel Insurance, said: "If it is the first time someone is going on a skiing holiday they may not be aware of the need for specific winter sports or skiing cover.
"It is the responsibility of the insurer to find out the nature of a customer’s holiday and ensure the product provided best suits their individual needs."
The comments follow recent research by Moneysupermarket.com, which claimed that one in five British skiers were taking to the slopes without being adequately covered.
