Ski Insurance Cannot Take Experience Into Account
Tuesday, November 14th, 2006
Skiing accidents can happen "regardless" of the experience an individual has, according to Halifax Travel Insurance.
Consequently, specialised ski holiday insurance cannot be linked to the amount of experience a skier has, the insurance firm states.
Commenting on linking skiing insurance to experience, Carol Wright, spokesperson for Halifax Travel Insurance, raised a number of concerns.
"The problem that any insurance company would have with this is that accidents can happen regardless of how much experience skiers have – for example we receive claims that are the result of inexperienced skiers crashing into more experienced skiers," Ms Wright remarked.
The issue of how insurers would prove skiing experience is another matter, the spokesperson added.
Halifax Travel Insurance indicates that all skiers should ensure that they are adequately covered by insurance when hitting the slopes.
Financial comparison website moneysupermarket.com claimed last week that almost 30 per cent of people who take skiing holidays do not have the relevant insurance cover for winter sports.
