Ski-in The New Year
Tuesday, December 11th, 2007

If you are looking for a New Year’s Eve that is more focused on quiet reflection than raucous celebrations then a ski holiday to Switzerland could be the answer.
According to a Professor Peter Voigt from the tourism faculty at Munich Polytechnic, there is a growing trend for "peace and quiet" over the New Year, Earthtimes reports.
Austria ski holidays are popular during this period, according to Klaus Stephan from the Austrian tourist office in Frankfurt, with New Year’s Eve being the climax of the season for ski resorts in the country.
"It’s quieter in the family oriented ski areas such as the Dachstein-Tauern region. But Lienz in east Tyrol and Ramsau in the state of Styria are also quiet. You have got snow all around you and you can look down at the fireworks in the valley," commented Mr Stephan.
Meanwhile for those who wish to combine skiing and lively turn of the year celebrations, Zurich is a "popular" destination in Switzerland, according to Marcelline Kuonen from Swiss Tourism.
Skiers holidaying in Zurich over Christmas and New Year can also enjoy shopping in the festive Christmas markets.
