Tuesday, December 30th, 2008
Ski lift companies and the local Municipality of Kolari as well as a number of local enterprises have made huge investments into the services and infrastructure of the region around Finland’s leading ski resort of Ylläs this winter.
On both side of the Ylläs ski hill there are new service centres to serve visitors for the winter season 2008-2009. These are full service houses, especially for skiers and boarders. Each contains rental-shops and ski shops as well as new ski pass sales points and a new equipment maintenance stations and also offering a wide range of restaurant and bar services.
Jounin Kauppa supermarket is also a major new investment in Ylläs. It is a whole new shoping centre in Äkäslompolo village. Besides the supermarket there are now 20 other shops, including Alko (a Finnish off license) and a chemist.
The new Ylläs1 Gondola Lift was Finland’s biggest ski lift investment when it opened last year. The new gondola covers a distance of just over two kilometres in seven minutes.
In a world first, one of the cabns contains a sauna, so guests can enjoy fabulous scenery whilst having a pleasant time in the sauna.
