Japan Set For Snow Festival
Wednesday, August 29th, 2007
Travellers on a ski holiday looking for something a bit different this coming season may be attracted to the Land of the Rising Sun – and snowy slopes – as the date for the annual Sapporo Snow Festival is announced.
Last year, American Express reported the increased popularity of more esoteric winter sports destinations, forecasting a boost in the number of people going away for a Japan ski holiday or trip to Chile.
Running from 5th -11th February 2008, the event at the Sapporo Snow Festival sees visitors from all over the world take the chance to enjoy the sight of stunning ice sculptures and wondrous snow statutes.
"For seven days in February, these statues and sculptures – both large and small – turn Sapporo into a winter dreamland of crystal-like ice and white snow," notes the official festival site.
Japan is a famed skiing and snowboarding holiday destination, with the country hosting the Winter Olympic Games in 1972 at Sapparo with Nagano boasting the games more recently in 1998.
