Tignes Thinks Green

As focus on green holidays and minimising our impact on the environment grows, the ski resort of Tignes is looking to help the environment in its own way.
The Tignes Lift Company (STGM) has announced that it is taking recycling to new level by recycling its ski lifts.
Those taking ski holidays in Tignes will be able to maneuver mogul fields safe in the knowledge that their chosen ski resort is doing its bit toward helping the environment.
After 40 years of service, the two person Brevieres chairlift has been replaced with a four person lift – 80 per cent of which is made up of the old installation.
The Brevieres chairlift has transported 50,000 skiers annually up the mountain side and will now carry a maximum of 1,800 people per hour.
“After dismantling and inspecting the old Brevieres chair, we realised that we could recycle nearly 80 per cent of its components,” a spokesman for Skirail explained.
Recycled parts include 13 of the 16 original pylons, the motor from the base station and all of the chairs.
