Snow Hits Europe
Friday, March 2nd, 2007
After a debatably slow start to the European ski season this year, impressive snow showers have this week hit the continent’s resorts.
The French ski resort of Chamonix has received an influx of snow this week and further snowfalls are forecast for the coming weekend.
On the resort’s website, piste conditions are described as "excellent" with 42 out of 47 lifts reported to be open and snow depths of up to 350 cm are reported on the upper slopes.
Also in France, snow blew into the resort of Argentiere yesterday and is forecast to spread to Val d’Isere, Les Arcs and Alpe d’Huez, according to Easier.
"There is so much new snow in Argentiere; we are skiing thigh-deep powder in places with some fantastic tree skiing. This much snow should ensure a good base for the rest of the season," Easier quoted a Ski Club representative as saying.
In the rest of Europe, snow fell in Zermatt earlier this week leaving the upper slopes with 200 cm of snow and on piste skiing conditions are described on the resort’s website as "good".
Zermatt is historically cited as one of Europe’s premier ski resorts and offers ski holidaymakers more than 250 km of pistes to enjoy.
