More Ski Areas Open In France As Abundant Snow Falls
Wednesday, December 10th, 2008
Most major French ski areas will be open by this weekend and it’s a great start to the season with heavy snowfall over the past few weeks giving superb powder conditions in both the French Alps and the French Pyrenees.
Snow depths have reached two metres (nearly seven feet) at many resorts including Avoriaz, Cauterets and Chatel.
Heavy snow falls in recent days have included 60cm (two feet) in Les Gets and 50cm (20 inches) each in Avoriaz and Morzine and over a foot at Val Thorens and Le Grand Bornand.
Resorts opening for this season this weekend include Les Arcs, Flaine, Montchavin, Les Coches, Valloire and Vars.
