Les 2 Alpes Turns Japanese For July Snow Contest

French glacier ski area Les 2 Alpes is staging one of the biggest events on snow in the northern hemisphere this July with a special Japanese-themed snow contest and festival which will include some of the world’s top skiers and riders.

Kumi Yama will take place this weekend from July 2nd to 4th on the resort’s summer skiing on a glacier peak at 3,600 meters.
Through the three days many riders will compete in the resort’s snow park, one of the biggest operational each summer in the Alps. Riders will included competitors from the 2010 Olympics games in Vancouver and seven medalists from the X Games (both Aspen in the US and Tignes in Europe) .
Altogether pros from 11 nations will be in resort including a Japanese delegation with Kazuhiro Kokubo will be in Les 2 Alpes.
The contest kicks off on Friday the 2nd with a qualifying slope style event, followed by a day in the superpipe on Saturday 3rd competing to show off the best tricks. The contest rounds off on Sundday the 4th with a Slopestyle final for both pros and amateurs.
Les 2 Alpes is open for summer skiing and boarding to late August, it currently has more than six feet of snow lying. You can also summer ski at Tignes and Val d’Isere in France as well as at ski areas in Austria, Italy, Norway and Switzerland.
