Snowboarders Get A Lucky Brake
Wednesday, May 30th, 2007
Britons that regularly head to the mountains for a snowboarding holiday may well know of the inconvenience and danger that a runaway snowboard can cause.
To deal with this risk, an Australian firm has manufactured a new brake designed to prevent boards sliding downhill when a budding sportsman slips off, the Ski Club of Great Britain reports.
Usually, snowboarders will attach a leash to their board to prevent it tumbling down the slope and potentially injuring or infuriating those near by on a ski holiday.
"The braking device according to the alternate form has the practical benefit of eliminating the need to attach the leash that is often used to connect the snowboarder to the snowboard," the patent for the product with the World Intellectual Property Organisation reports.
This means that those of you with cold hands can forgo the difficult process of tying a knot with thick skiing gloves on and simply stick in the pin to operate the braking system.
After that, you can forget all about it until you remove your board at the end of the day - or fall off after trying a particularly tricky manoeuvre.
