Wednesday, November 26th, 2008
Anyone looking to ski green this winter can choose from more environmentally friendly rail, coach or self drive holidays to the Alps, can stay in ski resorts powered by renewably energy, and can now dress the part with solar powered ski jackets and now thermal fleece made of recycled plastic drinks bottles.
Polartec Power Stretch recycled fleece is made from the recycled bottles and is used by the company in several fleece products.
These include the Patagonia Stretch Velocity Zip Neck base layer for men and women, which can be recycled again after use.
The Polartec base layer is made from fast-wicking, full-stretch polyester and spandex blend that provides next-to-skin comfort, and is versatile enough to be worn as a primary layer when you’re going all out.
Thanks to the fabric its smooth face slides easily under layers, and the front quarter-zip vents excess body heat.
All the fabrics excel at handling the demands of the next-to-skin environment, making the Velocity Stretch Zip Neck fleece, which has an RRP of £70 and is available from outdoor retailers nationwide (www.patagonia.com/europe), perfect for a skier or boarder’s base layer.
Many of the fabrics feature a proprietary construction with two unique surfaces: the durable nylon outer layer is wind and abrasion-resistant; the soft inner layer pulls moisture away from your skin keeping you dry, warm and comfortable.
Other fabrics in the series feature compression stretch which can improve performance and reduces the chance of certain types of stop-go injuries.
