Revelstoke Opens First Lodging On The Mountain
Tuesday, March 24th, 2009
The opportunity to stay at the mountain at North America’s newest ski resort next winter, or even in the last few weeks of this season, has become a reality with the opening of the first hotel at the area.
Revelstoke Mountain Resort only opened in December 2007 but has already taken the crown of ‘biggest lift served vertical drop on the continent’ away from Whistler as well as uniquely also offering both cat skiing and heliskiing options.
Until now however anyone skiing at Revelstoke needed to stay in the nearby town of Revelstoke, some distance from the slopes themselves.
The new Nelsen Lodge Hotel is located steps from the base of the Revelation Gondola, also offers access to heated indoor parking, convenient ski storage, valet services, and an outdoor hot tub with spectacular views of Mount Begbie.
“The demand for accommodation in Revelstoke since the opening of the mountain has been overwhelming,” says Tom Gaglardi, President of Northland, majority owner of the resort. “We are pleased that we can now offer hotel accommodation that allows visitors to ski right onto the gondola from their luxury hotel.”
Revelstoke Mountain Resort is currently enjoying a successful second season of operation and has had extensive snowfall over the past week.
Guests at the resort over the coming weeks can enjoy live music at the mid mountain Day Lodge and great events each weekend. Season closing date is April 13.
As of this year, Revelstoke Mountain Resort offers 1,713 vertical metres (5,620 ft) of lift-serviced terrain - the longest descent in North America.
The resort’s 1,227 hectares (3,031 acres) are serviced by two high-speed quad chairs, an eight-passenger gondola, and a beginner magic carpet lift. Also on offer are 208,412 hectares (515,000 acres) of cat skiing and heli skiing terrain through wholly-owned company Selkirk Tangiers Helicopter Skiing.
