Kicking Horse Introduces New Parents Pass

Kicking Horse in British Columbia, Canada, initially built a reputation as the destination of choice for advanced skiers, drawn to its steep and deep powder slopes. Over recent seasons however the resorts has been softening its image a little and broadening its appeal with a rapidly expanding range of family attractions.
The latest innovation is a new ‘Parent Pass’ which Kicking Horse is introducing this winter for families with at least one child under the age of six. The Parent Pass is a mother/father transferable pass that will allow one to get out on the mountain, while their ‘better half’ minds their little darling. The pass is designed to keep young families active and experience some much-desired time on the mountain without the usual options of buying two tickets when only one parent can ski at once.
The new initiative follows the launch last season of the “Horse Play Corral” which spans over 10 acres and is accessed via the Catamount chair. A children and family specific, wildlife-themed area it features contour grooming, a slow skiing and learning area and kids play trails which duck in and out of the main runs. The entire area has a wildlife theme and promises to provide hours of fun for kids of all ages.
Kicking Horse also added the Village Skating Rink last winter with a 60 x 120ft ice surface with benches, a fire pit, a warming hut and music. In addition the Pony Express, beginner area and Jelly Bean were renovated with the old magic carpet replaced with a new surface lift that is 100 meters in length and the beginner area revamped providing beginners and “first timers” with a safe and easily accessible area. The new lift accesses a longer, gentler slope and is a stand alone area providing a safe, yet accessible area to learn how to ski or snowboard.
Kicking Horse Mountain Resort is located two and half hours west of Calgary near Golden, and has one of North America’s largest lift-served verticals at 1,260-m (4,133-feet).
