Ice Follows Snow At Mont-Tremblant
Friday, February 6th, 2009
The Eastern coast of North America has had one of its best seasons so far with heavy snowfall at the start of winter and low temperatures maintaining snow integrity and allowing snow making machines to run with full efficiency.
At Trermblant in Quebec, Canada, the region’s most popular resort, owned and operated by Intrawest, the company which runs Whistler, a spectacular ice festival will be staged next month.
For seventeen days, from February 20 to March 8, Tremblant will glitter with ice carvings everywhere – in the town centre (Saint-Jovite), in the Old Village and on the resort site – all sculpted by talented ice carvers, including one of the world’s best – Mont-Tremblant’s own Laurent Godon.
While the ice carvings will be the centre piece of this festival, many other activities will be going on at the park Au fil de l’eau in the centre-town district.
Among them, there will be an ice palace with illuminated bar, ice slides, ice climbing and dogsled rides.
The program is meant to entertain visitors of all ages. Outdoor stages will feature Laurent Godon’s spectacular Fire on Ice show and live music in the evenings - rock, disco, hip-hop, alternative and traditional.
