Another Canadian Resort Opens Early Thanks to Great Snow
Friday, November 27th, 2009
Canada’s Revelstoke Mountain Resort which last year overtook Whistler as having the biggest lift-served vertical in North America, opens early for a ‘sneak peak’ weekend tomorrow, November 28th. It will also open on Sunday 29th before closing for the week then re-opening full time from December 4th onwards.
The snow is continuing to fall with another 25cm (10 inches) in the past 24 hours taking the season-to-date total past 2.5m/100 inches already. Base depth is 135cm (4.5 feet).
“After a snowy November, Revelstoke Mountain Resort is thrilled to announce that we are pushing our 2009-2010 season start to Saturday, November 28, 2009 for a sneak-peek opening weekend. We made the decision to get you out on the mountain sooner than scheduled after receiving more than 100cm (39.5in) of snow this month. The base at our weather plot at 1950m (6398ft) is now over a metre deep, and “coverage looks great on the upper mountain,” says Steve Parsons, Director of Mountain Operations for Revelstoke Mountain Resort.
Revelstoke is the latest resort in British Columbia to open early following several others earlier in the month including Big White, Fernie and Whistler. Kicking Horse has announced it will open a week earlier than planned, on December 4th instead of the 11th, due to the great conditions there.
Mount Washington and Whistler on the Pacific Coast have both announced record November snowfalls, breaking previous records, 30 years old, by several metres. Whistler has now had more than 5.4 metres (18 feet) of snow in November and has a 2m (6.6 feet) base at mid-mountain.
Western Canada currently has some of the world’s best snow conditions.
