16 Inches Of Snow At Whistler

Over 40cm (16 in) of snow has fallen on Whistler Blackcomb in Canada over the last three days.

The resort’s opening day is now less than three weeks away, on Thursday, November 27th. However some resort staff were lucky enough to get one on the snow to test out conditions late last week.

Excitement in whistler is building ahead of the opening of the highly publicised PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola on December 12 as well as the nearing of the start of the one-year countdown to the resort hosting many of the events at the 2010 Winter Olympics.

The world-record breaking gondola is the first lift of its kind in North America and will be in the record books for being the highest lift above a valley floor below as well as having the greatest distance between two support towers.

Two of the gondola cabins have glass floors so that you can get the full effect of the huge distance down to the valley below.
The klift may also be one of the most expensive ever built, as $52m, and links the resort’s two side-by-side mountains in 11 minutes at altitude, when previously they were only linked at their bases.
