Zell am Ziller Adds Downhill Roller Coaster
Monday, October 13th, 2008
Zell am Ziller is the latest Alpine ski resort to add an exciting downhill roller-coaster to its lift of winter attractions.
The Arena coaster is a metal roller coaster which you take the ski lift up to board at the top of the hill.
You then descend 1,450 m of steep curves and travel through a 360° loop followed by a 540° loop to get the adrenaline pumping even more.
The coaster descends 140m in total, reaching a maximum of nine metres above the ground and with the ride time of about six minutes. Children must be at least 10 years old to ride alone although younger children are allowed to ride with a parent.
Rides cost 4.50 Euros for an adult or 2.70 Euros for a child with discounts for five or ten tickets. You also need a lift pass to be able to get up to the top of the coaster.
The Zell am Ziller coaster is the latest of this new action sports phenomena in the Alps. Several others have already opened at other ski areas, the highest at the Diablerets Glacier near Gstaad in Switzerland, 3000 metres above sea level. The coasters are one of the few attractions able to operate year-round.
