Unique Thrill Rides in Serfaus
Thursday, January 15th, 2009
Serfaus has launched, literally, a new and unique attraction for thrill seekers.
The Sky Swing which resemble a fixed hang glider under which up to six people sit side by side hanging below on swings from wing tip to wing tip.
Located on the resort’s Möseralm mountain, you sit fastened securely whilst the 15 metre (50 feet) radius arm to which you are attached starts moving.
The swing and its occupants then plunge down twelve metres (40 feet) in free fall at a speed of 65 km/h and four times the normal gravitational pull, pressing the swing’s passengers into their seats, only to hurl them high again on the other side.
Then at the other end the reverse effect – zero-gravity. The ride lasts for three thrilling minutes of hurtling up and down, alternating between 4G and floating, then back to Mother Earth.
A ride costs six Euros for adults and five Euros for children.
It’s the latest attraction at Serfaus which is building as a reputation as the leading destination for this kind of thrill sport in the Alps.
The existing ‘Fisser Flieger’ also resembles a hang glider but this time passengers don a pilot’s vest and go flying down towards the valley hanging on a cable above the glider, with up to four passengers hung below side by side.
You need to wear thick clothing, because at 80 kilometres per hour (50mph) you will feel the wind chill, and then some.
The Flieger’ ‘floats’ at heights of between eight and 47 metres above white slopes and also costs six Euros per ride for adults, five Euros per ride for children with a minimum height requirement of 1.3m (4 feet, 4 inches).
A combination ticket for both rides is available at a one Euro discount on the combined priced. The rides are opened daily from 9am to 4pm and for night flying every Tuesday from 6pm to 8.30pm.
