Obergurgl An Early Opener
Wednesday, September 16th, 2009
Obergurgl in the Austrian Tyrol has announced that it will open for the winter on 13th November, one of the earliest resorts in the Alps to do so.
The resort, which does not offer glacier skiing, has some of the highest slopes in Austria and is the highest traditional village (rather than a specially built ski resort) in the Alps.
The resort guarantees the snow will be waiting for guests arriving on opening day and has organised stylish après ski entertainment at all the area’s mountain restaurants as well as live music in the popular Crystal Lounge at weekends.
The official opening will take place at the Hohe Mut Alm at 2,670m on 13th November.
This will be followed on 14th November by a Welcome Party in the Crystal Lounge with live performance by “Highlights” - Austria’s top cover band in the village centre, admission 7 Euros
On 20th November the area’s new natural toboggan run down from Hochgurgl to Pill will open with a sledding party from 5pm at the base terminal of Hochgurgl mountain gondola. Night tobogganing will be possible on run thanks to floodlighting.
