Austria’s Zell am See-Kaprun resort is asking the Facebook community to judge who is the best participant in the ‘Follow the Pipe’ event staged on the Kitzsteinhorn glacier this month.
Athletes have been competing on the slopes while wearing a helmet equipped with a video camera to capture each other’s ride in the 130-metre-long and 5.5-metre-high halfpipe at Mellow Park at an altitude of 2,650 metres above sea level.
Clips have now been published on Facebook for fans of Kitzsteinhorn to select their winner. The winning athletes will win various prizes.
Multiple world cup champion Xaver Hoffmann is one of the entrants demonstrating what is possible in Kaprun’s impressive halfpipe.
In addition Zell am See has opened a new ski movie race track, open all season, where recreational skiers and boarders can star in their own ski clips.
Video recording is initiated at the starting cabin where skiers register before beginning their run, with the camera automatically tracking them. A few moments after crossing the finishing line, skiers can analyse their performance at www.schmitten.at on the Internet.
If you want to watch your ride over and over again, you can drop in at the restaurants and pubs furnished with a ski movie video screen where your performance may be broadcast. At the Photopoint on Sonnkogel, you can even select the best scenes to be sent to your friends and family at home as an electronic postcard.
