Austria - A Strong Start To Winter

Austria - a strong start to winterSki resorts in Austria have displayed an exceptional performance in the early days of winter, it has been observed.

Some 26 resorts in the European ski centre are planning to open early this weekend after heavy snowfall laid the groundwork for snow sports sooner than expected.

The Ski Club of Great Britain’s Betony Garner told the Times that the conditions in Austria and most of the Alps are "fantastic".

"It has also been cold so the snow is staying and the resorts have also been able to make snow. This is a great start to the winter season," she said.

Austrian ski breaks spots like Obergurgl - reportedly having 100 cm on its upper slope - and St Anton - set to open on November 30th - are said to be readying themselves for an influx of eager skiers.

It was previously reported that Kitzbuhel’s 2007 opening date of November 10th was historically early for the resort.
