Heavy Snow And Free Skiing In The Pyrenees
Wednesday, January 28th, 2009
The Pyrenees continue to have one of their best winters in many years with the snow continuing to fall in huge quantities for two months now.
According to snow information service skiinfo.com, the latest falls of the past week saw another three feet of snow deposited on Baqueira Beret in Spain, which has up to 240cm (eight feet) of snow, although Sierra Nevada in the south has the most in the country with 350cm (nearly 12 feet).
The resort of Formigal, which was newly introduced by British tour operators this winter, has a special offer of free lift tickets for the rest of the season. To qualify simply book a holiday to the resort through a British tour operator then go to the resort’s website (www.aramon.com) and click the free ticket link.
It’s especially good news with Formigal normally having amongst the most expensive lift tickets in Europe, with the costs exasperated for Brits in recent weeks by the strength of the Euro.
The snow has been falling thickly on the other side of the Spanish border too with heavy snow in the French Pyrenees and in Andorra, which reported 50cm (20 inches) of new snow on Monday night alone (January 26th).
