Sauze d`Oulx is a long established resort that has a reputation for varied skiing and for a lively nightlife. The resort is at one end of the giant Milky Way ski region which encompasses 400km (250 miles) of piste stretching across the Italian border in to France.

It was host to most of the events in the 2006 Winter Olympics in the region. The village itself is located in a natural, sunny amphitheatre in the Susa Valley, and is surrounded by larch forest above, through which the ski runs descend. The resort is built on to the hillside above the old village centre with its stone buildings, narrow streets and a cobbled square with water fountain.

The resort is one of the longest established ski centres in the world. A Swiss engineer, Adolfo Kind, is reported to have taught skiing to locals and guests here at the end of the nineteenth century, using wooden boards strapped to the feet.
  • Skiing for Beginners+

There are a number of ski schools to choose from, and we can offer learn-to-ski packages, which include lift tickets, rentals and tuition for one low price when booked in advance. The village nursery slope is at the foot of the Clotes chairlift.

However the main area which most beginners will use is a wide open plateau with great beginner runs at Sportinia, reached by chairlift from the resort.
  • Intermediate Skiing+

The vast Milky Way ski region provides a huge range of opportunities for intermediate skiers who can travel right across to Montgenevre via Cesana and Claviere. Just be wary to leave time to catch the last lift back.

Closer to home the Rocce Nere chairlifts extend from the Sportinia area to Monte Triplex, and from the top there is a large choice of red runs linking the Monte Triplex area with Rocce Nere.
  • Advanced+

Sauze d`Oulx has a lot to interest advanced skiers with the Moncrons and Genevris areas providing some of the best off-piste possibilities. The Basset quad chair carries skiers over to neighbouring Sestriere and the Olympic Kandahar men's downhill run.

Runs in the Amphitaeatro bowl and the blacks at the top of Sises and Motta above Sestriere are recommended. Mount Sises provides access to excellent off piste from the slopes of Valle Ripa and Vallone del Chisonetto.

There's a huge choice of off-piste options including powder tours with the ski school, ski mountaineering and heliskiing with guides.
  • Snowboarding at Sauze D`Oulx+

Snowboarding was the one snow sport not hosted in the Milky Way region, but the area is now well equipped for boarders, with endless freeriding terrain and four terrain parks to choose from. Sauze d`Oulx recently created a new terrain park complete with jumps rails, and neighbouring Sansicario and Sestriere both have established parks too.

Pre-Olympic investment in new high speed lifts makes whizzing around between the parks much quicker and easier than it was.
  • Other Activities And Facilities at Sauze D`Oulx+

Sauze d`Oulx has a cinema, games hall, an ice skating rink off Via Colle Bourget and a rifle range on Via Monfol. There are various wellness facilities in the resort including sauna and hamman, solarium and calidarium, crystal therapy, massage and hydro massage.

On snow options include snowmobiling and a riding school. There's a selection of shops as well as a weekly market.
  • Apres Ski And Dining Out+

Sauze d`Oulx has a long standing reputation as one of the liveliest ski resorts in Europe, with the party atmosphere starting early and finishing late every day. Popular après ski spots include Paddy's or the Derby Bar.

There are three night spots: Il Bandito on Miramonti, Schuss on Via Clotes and Varioteca Gina also on Miramonti.

For dining out there is a large selection of pizzerias and restaurants to suit all palates and pockets. Sugo's on Via Assietta is a popular spaghetteria and The God Father on Via Clotes is one of many pizzerias. Del Borgo or Old Inn are good choices for gourmet meals.
  • Ski Holidays in Sauze D`Oulx suitable for Families+

Sauze d`Oulx has one of the most generous lift ticket prices for young children, who ski free until age eight. There's no non-ski nursery, but the ski school will accept children from age four, with special children's classes subject to demand.
