This is an old favourite and with its fantastic location in the centre of Val d’Isere, it is likely to remain on our guest’s top list as well. The Lores is on the “high street” in the resort, just a few minutes walk from the Val Village roundabout and the Tourist Office; it is therefore perfectly located for the skiing, the ski bus and the numerous bars, restaurants and shops on offer in the resort.
Every time the fashion press talk about a retro revival or 1960’s comeback I think of Lores, as the chalet was built in 1963 and remains an icon of that era ( although the heritage of the penguins in Wellington boots mural remains more difficult to decipher !) But whatever the decor, the Lores has a warmth and charm of its own. It has 12 bedrooms spread over two floors and all rooms are ensuite ( although there are three with separate wc next to the room ). Most of the rooms are south facing and have views of the slopes. The rooms are spacious and have good storage facilities and many can take a third bed.
The dining room and sitting room are on the ground floor and are built around a large stone hearth surrounded by sunken seating. There is a small residents’ bar ensuring you don’t have too far to go to re-tell the day’s exploits after a cold beer or refreshing G&T. A sitting room area with sofas, TV and video provides the perfect place to relax after the rigours of the pistes and the nightlife !
The chalet is fantastic for groups and as it sleeps up to 30 people, it is an ideal way to meet other skiers and to make the most of your time on the slopes.
