Le Corbier Transfer Times+
| Geneva-Cointrin: | 2 hours and 10 minutes |
| Lyon-Satolas: | 2 hours and 10 minutes |
Le Corbier is a small, mostly low-rise purpose built development on the giant Les Sybelles pass, a relatively recent amalgamation of half a dozen resorts in the Maurienne area of France, that, with 310km (195 miles) of piste, is the fourth largest in France. There are 90km of runs locally.
Le Corbier is directly lift linked to La Toussuire and Saint Jean d'Arves on either side. From there you can ski on to Les Bottières, Saint Sorlin d'Arves and Saint Colomban des Villards.
The resort opened 40 years ago in a wood-clad, rectangular block design and has a pedestrianised centre with vehicles parking on the outskirts of the village. It is named after its designer, the modernist architect Le Corbusier. Le Corbier is at quite a high altitude, with much of the terrain above the tree line so is normally snowsure.
Being both small and purpose-built, all facilities are very convenient and close at hand. The development has a predominantly French clientele so the cuisine has to be good for the restaurants to stay in business.

Skiing for Beginners+
Nursery slopes are located right next to Le Corbier's snow front of cafes and shops, so it's very convenient and effort-free to reach your ski school lessons and if you forget anything, like sun cream, supplies are equally nearby – as is a place to collapse with a drink at the end of your lessons.
There's extensive easy-level terrain to progress on to once you have grasped the basics of downhill technique and learned how to turn and stop.
-
Intermediate Skiing+
The huge Les Sybelles pass has 106 runs, and more than 100 of those are graded easy or intermediate, so this is a great area for high-speed cruising from one resort to the next.
Virtually all of the skiing is above the tree line and crosses wide snow fields.
A high speed six-seater chairlift will take you from the resort straight up to the top of the area from where you can ski back down on blues or greens, or continue on to St Sorlin d'Arves or La Toussuire.
-
Advanced+
Advanced level skiers have limited black run challenges on the piste here and will instead be pressed to try to ski the whole huge area, or head off in to the powder with a guide.
Although not renowned for its steep terrain, there are half a dozen black runs spread around the wider Sybelles region, and Le Corbier has its own Casse - Pipe descent.
La Toussuire has slightly steeper terrain on the whole, including the 1.5km (one mile) long Vallee Perdue descent.
There is also a good range of off piste skiing in areas such as St Colomban des Villards, which is known for having wide empty slopes.
-
Snowboarding at Le Corbier+
Le Corbier is home to one of the two terrain parks in the region; the other, at St Sorlin d'Arves, opened as recently as 2007. Both parks have a good range of features including jumps and waves.
Outside the parks there's extensive free riding terrain and the fast modern lift network makes getting around the huge area efficient and easy.

Other Activities And Facilities at Le Corbier+
Alternative snow sports available include snowshoe routes, snowmobile excursions, dog sledding, an outdoor ice rink and 25km of cross country ski trails. Micro-light and paragliding flights are available in the area.
There's an indoor shopping mall which spans the length of the resort and contains a bank and mini-market amongst other retail outlets covering all essentials.
Other indoor facilities include a gym, cinema (showing films in French) and a games room with electronic and table games.
-
Apres Ski And Dining Out+
There's a small selection of about 10 bars and restaurants, as well as a night club, but Le Corbier is predominantly a typical French self-catering apartment resort so people tend to eat-in.
Restaurants range from creperies and pizzerias to traditional French mountain establishments, serving traditional Savoie favourites such as fondue, raclette, reblochonnade, tartiflette and many other recipes. Le Chalet 2000 and Le Coq de Bruyer are worth a visit.
