Kimberley is a friendly and laid back medium-sized ski area, located in British Columbia's Purcell Range, with the impressive backdrop of the Canadian Rockies. Guests to Kimberley have a choice of staying slopeside in the mountain resort, or in the City of Kimberley, three miles (five kilometers) and ten minutes away. Known as the "Bavarian City of the Rockies" because of its surreal German overtones, the City of Kimberley has good shopping and nightlife.

Skiing first developed next to the more-than-a-century old mining town in the 1930s but the modern resort is more recent, largely established in the 1970s after the town began looking for tourism alternatives for when the coal supply begins to expire. The resort has been developed with some sensitivity to the long heritage, by North American standards, and towering spruce and pine trees have been left standing where possible to help maintain the atmosphere.
  • Skiing for Beginners+

Beginner skiers will find meticulously groomed trails right by their lodging if they stay at the resort base. Long, open, gentle gradient runs, graced with generous amounts of Purcell powder snow, are accessed by the North Star Express Quad. The Kimberley Winter Sports School offers a "Discover Skiing" package for first time skiers.
  • Intermediate Skiing+

The front side of the mountain is well suited to intermediates, who will enjoy the long, wide open groomed trails and intermediate gladed (thinly wooded) terrain. Runs are up to 6.4 km (four miles) long, and if you can't get enough turns in during the day, night skiing is available Thursdays through Saturdays.
  • Advanced+

The Easter Bowl on the backside of the mountain is a haven for the more adventurous skier, with steep gladed terrain, moguls and long lasting powder stashes to take advantage of the 500cm (200 inches) of snow this resort receives on average annually. On the piste a dozen black runs can be accessed from the top of the Easter triple chair. Cat skiing and heliskiing are both available in the area and Resorts of the Canadian Rockies, which owns half a dozen leading ski resorts including Kimberley and Fernie, 90 minutes away, offers a lift ticket valid at both resorts.
  • Snowboarding at Kimberley+

Kimberley has a popular rail park with a good variety of rails and other small scale features. A special discounted pass is available for park access only. For freeriders, the powder bowl skiing over the backside of the mountain has lots of natural hits and the high speed lift network makes getting there easy.
  • Other Activities And Facilities at Kimberley+

In the slopeside resort village there's a warm outdoor pool and hot tub. You can also opt to head out ice skating or roast marshmallows around the bonfire. Other options include a number of Nordic skiing trails, dogsledding, overnight in an igloo, take a helicopter tour, or just relax in the natural hot springs in the area. There's great shopping and dining in the City of Kimberley's downtown area. There are about 30 shops in total, many in the Platzl shopping centre.
  • Apres Ski And Dining Out+

Popular venues at the base of the slopes include the Stemwinder Bar and Grill which often has live music, and the award winning Kelsey's Bar and Grill for dining. The Kootenay Fondue Tour is an experience not to miss. Participants ride the lift up the mountain, take a scenic 30 minute tour on snowshoes, then enjoy a chocolate fondue in the mountaintop Kootenay Haus before returning down on the North Star Express lift, back to the base around 8:30pm. In downtown Kimberley the Number 4 Mine Pub has live entertainment most weekends. Other popular venues include The Ozone, and Marysville Pub and Grill.
  • Ski Holidays in Kimberley suitable for Families+

Kimberley's nursery is located in a new centre in the Trickle Creek Lodge and is open seven days a week. Professional childcare staff care for toddlers aged from 19 months to children aged six years. Parents have the option of providing a sandwich lunch or picking up their little ones for lunch as a family. Due to limited space and a desire to stick to maximum child/carer ratios, advanced reservation to secure a place is recommended. Older children attending nursery can also receive ski school lessons. Children are escorted to and from lessons by trained staff but parents are responsible for equipment pick-up and return.
